Do you offer both face-to-face and online lessons?
Yes - The Education Warehouse offers both face-to-face and online tuition. If you would like to enquire about face-to-face tuition (individual or group), please fill out our 'Initial Phone Consultation' form by clicking on the 'Enquire Now' button below - you will need to enter your location and your postal code. Please note, additional fees will be incurred for face-to-face tuition and will vary depending on the location (U.K. or internationally).
Are online lessons effective?
Online lessons are just as effective as face-to-face lessons. In fact, a large proportion of students who have had both face-to-face and online lessons say they prefer the online lessons as they find it easier to concentrate and that it's a more efficient use of time.
How do online lessons work?
A recurring link to ‘Zoom’ will be sent to your email address. Zoom is the leader in modern enterprise video communications, with an easy, reliable cloud platform for video and audio conferencing, collaboration, chat and webinars across laptops, desktops and tablets. ‘Bitpaper’ is an online whiteboard that I will use for my teaching.
Online lessons mirror the traditional classroom structure; all lesson notes, questions and mark schemes used are the same. Students are able to write exam answers on the online whiteboard so we can read the answer together before going through any mark-schemes. The edit option allows pupils to make any necessary changes to their answers. Zoom allows hands-free communication, so students can type or read while talking, and the webcam enables improved communication.
All your child will need to do is click on the same link at the start of every lesson and they will automatically enter the online lesson. Please ensure your camera and microphone is working on your device (laptop or desktop computer).
Can a mobile phone or tablet be used for online lessons?
No - please use a laptop or desktop computer. The features that are used in the online classes work with a laptop or desktop computer using either Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Safari as the browser. The features that are used will not work with any iOS or Android devices or tablets due to the touch screen feature they hold, and for this reason, laptops that also have a touchscreen feature will not work either.
Which browser should be used for online lessons?
I recommend using either Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox or Safari, as the online classroom is most compatible with these three browsers and using them will ensure the lesson will run smoothly.
Is the Lead Tutor DBS checked?
Yes - I have a fully enhanced DBS check that is cleared.
What will my child need for the lesson?
A positive attitude and a focused mentality. This may be new and fun for your child, but they are here to learn and get the most out of every lesson. They will need an exercise book (squared paper) and basic stationery: a pen, pencil, ruler, calculator, compass and protractor. It is also essential that your child has a graphics tablet - this is to ensure that I can see their calculations on the online whiteboard. I have used a WACOM brand tablet for 5+ years, however, I also recommend the XP-PEN, HUION or UGEE brands, which can be found on Amazon.
Some students prefer wearing headsets with a microphone as it eliminates any echoing or feedback ruining the quality of their audio. However, if you are unable to find a headset with a microphone integrated, your child will still be able to access the online lesson just fine.
What topics will be covered in the lessons?
The scheme of work will be based on the National Curriculum for England for mathematics. A scheme of work will be devised to suit the needs of the student/s enrolled; this information will be sent to you ahead of time.
The National Curriculum for England (Key Stage 2) covers the topics found in the 11+ Entrance Examinations, however, we will branch into higher mathematical studies that may branch into Key Stage 3 topics.
How are group lessons structured?
The same strategies used in a traditional class when teaching up to 30 children are implemented, breaking down the teaching at different levels to suit the needs of all students, through effective, tailored and targeted questioning and differentiated work. Students send their answers through the 'chat' option or via their own whiteboards on Zoom (depending on the activity), where direct feedback is provided.
Towards the end of the lesson, students spend time reflecting on the topics they did well in and the topics they need to make improvements on. Your child will then be able to show you this and in addition, you will receive the files (and answers) that we used in the lesson, as well as overall feedback written to you in an email.
How do I pay for lessons?
Payment is taken through 'Stripe,' an online payment processing for internet businesses which uses an invoice system.
Can I cancel a lesson/the block of lessons?
Please refer to the ‘Terms and Conditions' at the bottom of this web page.
